Mill Barn Banner

Mill Barn is two self contained and unique holiday homes in an old converted corn mill built of local stone, retaining all the character and traditional atmosphere expected with wooden beams and whitewashed walls. Situated close to the sea between the Bristol Channel and the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the small rural village of Stockland Bristol. Here you will find Mill Barn at the foot of the lane below the Church and bordered by farmland.

The front of Mill Barn Mill Barn offers the choice of either a three bedroom or one bedroom self catering holiday set in a peaceful haven with a well established large front garden which is a natural cottage style containing a raised stone patio and pathways. A wildlife pond is overlooked by a summerhouse and maturing trees and shrubs. There is a French ambience to this sunny front area.

The main garden

Behind the delightful barn is a separate totally enclosed and secluded south facing courtyard garden with a long flower border in front of the living accommodation and a mature Hornbeam hedge backdrop to the rear.

The village provides numerous public footpaths and bridle ways and the West Somerset Coast Path nearby is ideal walking country. It is close to Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve, the largest area of salt marsh in Somerset, which is part of the Severn Estuary and includes the mouth of the River Parrett, which meanders through the heart of the Somerset Levels. The nature reserve, a must for bird watchers, has recorded around 190 bird species and has many bird hides overlooking the sand banks and salt marshes which are internationally important feeding and roosting sites for waterfowl and wading birds.

Mill Barn offers the perfect peaceful holiday retreat, yet is close to the large village of Cannington where you will find four public houses with restaurants, a butcher, general stores, bakery, post office and hairdressers, together with other shops and a garage. You may even care to try clay shooting here. For the sports minded there is a golf course open to non-members in Cannington, while horse riding and mountain biking is available on the nearby Quantocks which are famous for their wildlife, with red deer and wonderful walks across acres of heath land and broad-leaved forests. Within easy reach are the ancient town of Dunster with its castle, Cheddar Gorge, and Exmoor, with Tarr Steps and the mediaeval landscape of Badgworthy which inspired the novel Lorna Doone, while for shopping there is the county town of Taunton or Clarks Village in Street.

Go along the coast to Minehead and you will find Kilve beach - a gem for fossil hunters. Next you come to Watchet, an old Saxon Port where Coleridge wrote the epic poem the Ancient Mariner. Here you can catch the steam train which then follows the coast past the award winning beach at Blue Anchor.
